The Oral Language Acquisition Inventory, 2nd Edition (OLAI 2) is a revised and updated, research-based assessment whose results provide actionable information that can be used to shape intervention/instruction. It takes less time than the original version to administer and interpret. The OLAI 2 refines the measurement of language, literacy and learning behavior by providing new, improved scoring procedures, individual record forms, performance profiles and an array of Oracy Instructional Activities under one cover. It identifies three stages of language acquisition. Results may be used to establish a baseline and document change over short as well as longer intervals. There is no Spanish version of the OLAI 2 but recommendations and adjustments for ELL students appear throughout the text.
The original OLAI and Oracy Instructional Guide package is still available. The first edition of the OLAI addresses students in Pre/K-3. The Guide provides directions for working with ELL students as well as those whose native language is English. It contains clear, detailed examples of meaningful conversations, interactions and prompts that expand and refine language, literacy and learning behavior.
